Everything you need to know about remaining weekends

Why calculate your remaining weekends?

Visualizing the number of weekends you have left is a powerful awareness exercise. It transforms an abstract concept (passing time) into a concrete, tangible number that motivates you to make the most of every weekend.

This calculation helps you prioritize what truly matters. When you realize you may only have 1,500 or 2,000 weekends left, every Saturday and Sunday takes on new value, encouraging you to dedicate them to the people and activities you care about most.

It is also a life planning tool. By knowing your weekend time budget, you can better organize your projects, trips, family moments, and long-term personal goals.

Common use cases

Use this tool as a visual reminder to refocus on your priorities. The life grid and progress bar offer a unique perspective on time elapsed and time remaining.
Retirement planning
If you are approaching retirement, calculate how many free weekends await you. This helps plan activities, trips, and projects to fully enjoy this new chapter.
Life coaching and counseling
Life coaches and therapists use this type of visualization to help their clients step back and reassess their life choices and relationship with time.
Education and awareness
Show young people or students the value of time through a concrete exercise. This can be a trigger for reflection on life goals and time management.

How does the calculation work?

The calculator determines your current age from your date of birth, then calculates the number of weeks (and therefore weekends) that have passed since your birth and those remaining until your chosen life expectancy.

Life expectancy is pre-filled by sex (82 years for men, 85 years for women in France), but you can freely adjust it according to your own data or preferences.

Results include the number of remaining weekends, corresponding weekend days, a life progress bar, and a visual grid where each square represents one year of weekends (~52).

Frequently asked questions about remaining weekends

What life expectancy is the default calculation based on?
The calculation uses the average life expectancy in France by default: 82 years for men and 85 years for women (INSEE data). You can modify this value according to your personal situation or your country's statistics.
Does the calculation account for public holidays and vacations?
No, the calculator only counts weekends (Saturdays and Sundays), meaning 2 days per week. Public holidays, bridge days, and leave are not included, which means your actual free time is higher than the displayed figure.
Why is the visual grid so impactful?
The life grid transforms abstract years into concrete, colored squares. Seeing at a glance the years already lived (in blue) and those remaining (in green) creates a strong emotional impact that helps realize the finite nature of time.
Can I use this tool to motivate a team or group?
Absolutely. This tool is regularly used in personal development workshops, corporate seminars, and time management courses. It sparks deep reflection on priorities and the use of free time.
How should I interpret the life elapsed percentage?
The life elapsed percentage shows the proportion of your life already lived relative to your total life expectancy. For example, at 40 with a life expectancy of 82, about 49% of your life has elapsed. It is a simple yet powerful indicator to assess where you stand.
